Course Description

Microsoft Project can be used the go-to tool in your project-management toolbox This unit strives to explain how to use Project to build schedules complete with tasks and resources, use the extensive formatting features in Project to organize and format the plan’s details, track actual work against the plan, share status, and take corrective action when tasks are not on schedule.

Microsoft Project is a powerful application that helps in planning and managing a wide range of projects. From meeting crucial deadlines and budgets to selecting the right resources, one can be more productive and achieve better results using the set of features Microsoft Project offers such as creating plans at the various level of detail; work with summary or detailed data and control what tasks Microsoft Project can schedule automatically.

Learners will analyse and practice how to manage tasks, costs, work, and resources at whatever level of detail is appropriate for your project’s need; work with views and reports; track and manage a plan throughout the life of the project and collaborate and share data with others in the same organization using rich view and report formatting options

Structure and Assessment

Course delivery is planned to be face-to-face lessons along with practical assignments where applicable.

Duration – 30 Hours

Note: Additional hours as directed by the Lecturer need to be dedicated by way of Self-Study / Research / Assignments / Projects / Presentations / Group-Work or similar.

Assessments

Assignments should be carried out in order to assess students on all of the aspects of this unit.  The students can be assessed in various way.  One option could be a case scenario for which they have to provide a backup strategy. The backup strategy can be presented in all of its details in a word processed report, as well as in the form of a presentation. For the report, the students can be asked to edit and manipulate their own images. Other aspects of the unit can be accessed via a Time constraint Assignment which will ask the students to represent given data visually and to work out calculations based on the functions learned during class.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Make use of the rich field of project management and show the major parts of the Project 2013 interface
  2. Complete an entire project life cycle (planning, tracking, and managing) with a streamlined use of Microsoft Project features and capabilities
  3. Complete project life cycle with more in-depth use of the powerful capabilities of Project
  4. Be familiar with Microsoft Project activities that can be applied at any point in a project life cycle

Entry Requirements

A full MQF Level 4 Qualification

Maturity Clause:

Applicants who do not meet all the minimum eligibility criteria, and who have attained the age of 21 years, may submit an application under the maturity clause. A Curriculum Vitae and a Motivation Letter (the latter clearly indicating what motivates the applicant to apply for this particular course) are required.

These applicants must demonstrate that they stand to benefit and show that they are able to follow the programme through an interview held for the purpose. Additionally, applicants under the maturity clause may be evaluated through an assessment.

The Admissions Department may suggest pre-eligibility courses any applicant would be required to follow before being considered eligible for this course.
