Comments (entry requirements etc) This Award provides individuals with the knowledge and skills required to become a qualified VRT tester. The course covers a range of topics related to vehicle inspection, including legal requirements for VRT testing, health and safety regulations, and testing procedures for various vehicle components such as steering and suspension, brakes, lights, and emissions.

 

Throughout the course, students participate in practical exercises and simulations to gain hands-on experience in carrying out VRT tests and identifying faults. They also receive training in customer service and communication skills to effectively interact with vehicle owners.

 

Upon completion of each module within the course, students will be assessed on that particular module to demonstrate their understanding and competency in that module. Successful completion of all assessments/exams is necessary for obtaining the VRT tester licence from Transport Malta.

Learning outcomes
  1. Recognise legal requirements for VRT testing, health and safety regulations, and environmental standards related to vehicle emissions.
  2. Carry out accurate and efficient vehicle inspections using appropriate testing procedures and equipment.
  3. Identify faults and defects in various vehicle components such as steering and suspension, brakes, lights, and emissions.
  4. Understanding of customer service and communication skills to provide a positive experience for vehicle owners during the VRT testing process and interact with customers to explain testing results and recommend appropriate repairs
  5. Maintain records and documentation related to VRT testing and adapt to updates to VRT regulations and guidelines, as well as changes in the industry.
  6. Work effectively as part of a team in VRT testing station, or as a self-employed tester, and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, customers, and regulatory bodies.

 

Minimum entry requirements for Programme  

A person needs to have a minimum of 3 years certified work (Jobsplus work history) experience in the auto repair sector or a level 3 diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering
