Course Description

This course is intended for all those who would like to have a general idea on how light vehicles function The knowledge provided is structured specifically to make candidates more familiar with the main basic features of light vehicles and how they function.  It will help car owners to maintain their vehicle safe and better maintained.

 

The course is 22 hours long.  Lessons are held as indicated on the prospectus and website.

 

The main aim of this course is to provide basic knowledge to PRIVATE Vehicle owners on the main basic features of a light vehicle and how they function.

 

The following are that areas that will be covered;

 

Learning Outcome 1: Outline the functions and features of a light vehicle engine systems and related components

 

Unit Content

 

 

    • Types of Motor Vehicle Engines and locations.

 

    • Engine components and their functions.

 

    • Operating Principles of petrol/diesel engines.

 

    • Fuel systems in standard forms and locations.  Petrol/diesel.

 

    • Main petrol/diesel fuel system components and their function.

 

    • The basic operating principles of petrol/diesel fuel systems.

 

    • Main petrol/diesel fuel system components and their functions.

 

    • Spark ignition systems.

 

    • Spark ignition system operational principles.

 

    • The  main features of the  engine cooling systems

 

    • The main features of the  lubrication systems

 

 

Learning Outcome 2: Outline the functions and features of a light vehicle chassis systems and related components

 

Unit Content

 

 

    • Body types and their functional requirements

 

    • The operational principles and identification of main components of the braking system

 

    • The  operational principles and identification of main components of the Steering system

 

    • The main operational principles and identification of main components of the Suspension

 

    • The basic information  provide on  Wheels and Tyres

 

    • The operating principles of gearboxes

 

    • Clutch components and their functions

 

    • The operational principles of clutch systems

 

    • Vehicle drive shafts and hubs

 

    • The operational principles of final drive and differential systems

 

 

There are no entry requirements or pre-requisites for this course. However, candidates should show interest to learn and have good communication language skills.

 

At the end of the course, students attending more than 80% of the course will be awarded the MCAST Certificate of attendance.

 

There are no summative assessments in this course.
