Course Description
The French language remains the 5th most spoken language in the world and is considered to be one of the world’s most influential languages. It is widely used among entrepreneurs, professionals, workers and students. According to the OIF (the international organization representing French speaking countries and regions), approximately 321 million people worldwide are able to speak the language. French is estimated to have about 76 million native speakers, 235 million daily fluent speakers and another 77 – 110 million secondary speakers who speak it as a second language to various degrees of proficiency. French is first or second language in more than 40 countries making it a language present on every continent.
This unit is a continuation of the Award in Foreign Language Proficiency – French Level 1. During the sessions, the learner will further develop the four essential skills comprising basic language competency; reading, listening, writing and speaking. All four skills are important when learning French so as to enable the learner to interact with others in real life situations, using this language to communicate and accomplish tasks in different contexts. The topics constituting this unit focus on developing the learners’ communicative skills enabling them to provide and understand information about their school, their daily routine and hobbies and their town. They will also be able to provide and understand health related information as well as be equipped to face a shopping for food experience in France or a French speaking country.
Furthermore, cultural topics related to the culture of France and the various French speaking countries will be covered.
