Course Description:

German is one of the most useful languages and mastering it can open the door to many opportunities, both professional and personal. This is largely due to the fact that it is the most widely spoken native language in the European Union and is spoken in several countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Belgium or the Italian Tyrol. Hence, this unit is a great option for all those who wish to catch up linguistically in a world as competitive as the one we live in today and acts as the essential first step to demonstrate a basic command of the language.

This unit aims to provide non-German speakers the ability to communicate in everyday situations with commonly used expressions and elementary vocabulary. It deals with the first level of knowledge of German; namely A1 – an internationally recognized level which is referred as Breakthrough by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CFR). This unit’s material covers the four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking; all framed in scenarios that learners would encounter in everyday use of the language such as introducing oneself, listening and understanding a weather forecast, ordering food and making plans with someone to go out.

In addition, this unit also gives an insight into the different aspects of the German culture and traditions, expanding on widely known aspects while also introducing learners to lesser known ones.
