Course Description:
The course covers the Practical and Technological aspects on lighting and power circuits of an Electrical Installation according to IEEE Regulations and Requirements. The course includes the following topics:
-
- Introduction to generation, transmission and distribution systems in Malta
-
- Fuses – current rating, fusing current, fusing factor
-
- The R.C.D.‚ Construction, performance and testing.
-
- Design of an installation – lighting, power and permanent equipment regulations.
-
- Double insulated appliances (importance of earthing). Why D.P switching is imperative.
-
- Supply voltages – declared supply voltages. Use of multimeter.
-
- Domestic electrical accessories
-
- Practical exercises on a variety of lighting circuits and power circuits, including radial circuits types A2 and A3 (I.E.E Regulations and requirements) – duplicate multiple earthing. Ring circuit type A1 – (I.E.E Regs + requirements) fused spurs and non fused ones
-
- Cooker unit, construction and diversity regulations and calculations done
-
- How to determine cable C.S.A and protection Installation testing, using multimeter, use of insulation and continuity tester (hand driven and electronic typing), use of clamp meter, use of R.C.D tester, use of socket outlet tester plug
-
- Transformer Principles- construction and testing of a double wound, step-down type, SELV (I.E.E Regulations)
-
- Importance of earthing and different methods as stated by I.E.E. Regulations special reference to earth electrode
