This unit is designed to give a good understanding of the principles of dairy cattle husbandry and production. It especially targets individuals who are interested in opening a new dairy cattle farm or who would like to update their skills to manage better an already running dairy cattle enterprise.
This unit’s sessions are delivered in class and on a working farm and the learner will be expected to spend various hours in practical sessions on the farm.
The unit will go over the basic principles of farm design and dairy cattle husbandry including feeding, health, milking, record-keeping, animal welfare and the legislation regulating this sector.
