Description

Course Description

This garment assembly – trousers course rounds off a series of courses (Bodice, Skirt and Trousers) intended to equip student with skills‚  in sewing, patternmaking, and industrial procedures for making clothes.

As a student in this course, one will learn fabric identification, fabric cutting, pattern-making processes, sewing

techniques, laying-up, professional finishing, and adjustments, all of which are valuable skills needed in this rapidly expanding

industry.

A typical pattern drafter begins with a sketch, drawing, or an image of a specific piece of clothing. The drafter then measures a

form or an individual person to assist sectioning the garment. Trained pattern makers begin by drawing straight lines relevant

to specific body measurements and then sculpting the template with curved lines and additional measurements to create an

initial template known as a block or slope. A mock-up is created by cutting fabric from the block.

Students will construct a pattern block to draft simple trouser shapes. Students will then modify basic trousers based on individual sizing. A pair of trousers will be created and presented as a final product in this course.
