Course Description
Spanish is one of the most widely used languages among entrepreneurs, professionals, students and workers. Understanding Spanish today is of vital importance. Spanish, also called Castilian language, is recognised as an official language in 21 countries which include Spain, 19 countries in Central and South America (except for Brazil where the people speak Portuguese) and in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in Africa. It is the fourth most spoken language in the world, with over 480 million people worldwide. Spanish is spoken in 73 countries, and it is one of the most important languages in the world because it is a language with a rich culture and literature.
The aim of this unit is to enable the learner achieve a level 1 introductory level in Spanish . Throughout the unit the learner will develop the four skills required to learn a language, namely, reading, writing, speaking and listening. All four skills are important when learning Spanish, because the learner will be able to interact with others in real life situation and to use the language in different contexts. The topics of this unit will emphasis at developing the learner’s communicative skills used in everyday life, including simple greetings and introduction, talking about oneself, give information about others and describe other people.‚ Moreover, cultural topics about the culture of Spain and the culture of Spanish speaking countries, including their capitals will be covered.
