Description

Course Description

In this unit, the learners will be provided with foundational knowledge of gypsum board installation: a construction process used to create partition walls, ceilings, and other structural elements. The objective of this process is to achieve a smooth, durable surface that offers structural integrity, insulation, and an aesthetically pleasing finish.

The unit also develops learners’ understanding of different types of plaster, including gypsum plaster. In addition, learners will explore painting as the final stage of surface finishing. Painting plays a vital role in enhancing visual appeal, protecting surfaces from wear, and improving the overall durability of walls and ceilings. Learners will be equipped with knowledge of various types of paints and the correct procedures for their application.

This unit also focuses on the application of safe procedures and safe work practices during gypsum installation. Individuals undertaking this work are required to possess the appropriate knowledge and skills to ensure that their activities do not pose health and safety risks to themselves or others. Emphasis is placed on the identification of risks and hazards associated with the work environment, tools and equipment, and the materials and substances used.
