Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

N.B. Kindly note that applicants will be requested to register for their attendance on Classter. Failure to achieve the full enrolment will entitle the lecturer to exclude student from classes and no certification can be issued. A minimum attendance of 70% is required for certification attainment.

Course Description

This course is of 15 Hours spread over 2 Days

During this course students will become familiar with the following:

• • Introduction, safety and principles

• • Concept and application of the fire triangle to fire and explosion

• • Types and sources of ignition

• • Flammable materials commonly found on board

• • Need for constant vigilance

• • Fire hazards

• • Organisation of shipboard fire fighting

• • Location of fire-fighting appliances and emergency escape routes

• • Fire spread in different parts of a ship

• • Fire and smoke detection measures on ships and automatic alarm systems

• • Classification of fires and applicable extinguishing agents

• • Selection of fire-fighting appliances and equipment

• • Precautions for and use of fixed installations

• • Use of breathing apparatus for fighting fires

• • Use of breathing apparatus for effecting rescues

Applicants should be 16 years of age and over. Applicants must be medically and physically fit

An MCAST Certificate will be awarded to those students who have attended 80% and more of the lectures and passed their examination

Written assessment at the end of the course
