Course Description

During this course students will become familiar with Operation, deployment and manning of Survival Craft and Rescue Boats:

    • Training and Drills

 

    • Actions

 

    • Abandon Ship

 

    • Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

 

    • Launching arrangements

 

    • Evacuation and recovery of Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

 

    • Actions to take when clear of the ship

 

    • Survival Craft and Rescue Boat Engines

 

    • Handling Survival Craft and Rescue Boats in rough water

 

    • Actions when aboard Survival Craft

 

    • Hypothermia

 

    • First Aid in Survival Craft

 

    • Launching and recovering Lifeboats (practical)

 

    • Launching Liferafts by Davit (practical)

 

    • Launching Liferafts (practical)

 

    • Liferaft drills (practical)

 

    • Helicopter Rescue Operations

 

    • Radio Equipment and Distress Signals

 

    • Man Overboard Drills (practical)

 

    • Launching and Recovering Rescue Boats

 

 

Applicants should be at least 18 years of age and must be medically and physically fit. Candidates must know how to swim unaided and be in possession of a valid STCW Personal Survival Techniques Certificates and approved seagoing service (both locally and foreign).

 

Subject to the completion of the additional requirements, licence will be issued by Transport Malta

 

Practical and Oral assessment at the end of the course
