Course Description: 

This course is primarily aimed for prospective candidates who are motivated to learn basic fundamental skills in drawing and painting. This short programme is specifically designed for beginners who wish to be able to draw/ paint in a successful manner through guided structured practical lessons. Detailed explanations, demonstrations and practical advice will help the learners to develop a range of skills and techniques that will offer self-confidence whilst drawing and painting. Learners who successfully complete this programme may opt to progress to the next level by following the course – Drawing and Painting – Beginners 2

This is a 26 hour guided learning course. Students need to invest further hours which will include private study and home assignments.

This unit aims at developing very basic skills that are essential in order to be able to draw and paint. It focuses on different techniques, drawing skills, colour theories and different media which will become important assets in producing still life and simple landscapes.

Learning Outcome 1; Simplify objects into basic shapes

Unit Content

    • Four basic shapes: cylinder, sphere, cube and cone
    • Space relationships

Learning Outcome 2; Draw a basic still life

Unit Content

    • Learning about proportions
    • Being able to use linear and angular measurements
    • Awareness of positive and negative spaces

Learning Outcome 3; Apply different concepts in drawing and painting

    • Different techniques in shading; gradations, hatching and cross-hatching
    • Knowledge about perspective
    • Knowledge about colour theories

Learning Outcome 4; Use four different media in drawing and painting

Unit Content

    • Practice in pencil shading
    • Using charcoal and chalk
    • Properties of acrylics/ poster colours
    • Soft pastels

Pre-requisites:

    • Completed compulsory education

 

  • Certification applicable if student achieves a minimum of 70% attendance
