Course Description

This unit introduces the core principles of occupational health and safety (OHS) in the workplace, emphasizing the shared responsibilities of employers and employees in maintaining a safe and healthy environment. It covers essential OHS topics such as hazard identification, risk assessment, and applying safe work practices at the workplace.

The unit also underscores the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Learners will explore when and how to properly use protective clothing and gear to minimize exposure to physical, chemical, or biological hazards. Understanding the correct application of PPE is vital in ensuring individual and collective workplace safety.

During the course, students are encouraged to advocate for wellness and safety as part of professional practice.

By building practical skills, and a proactive safety mindset, this unit prepares learners to contribute to a safer, healthier, and more productive workplace, from the start of their careers.
