Course Description
The Award in Inclusive Education is a study programme at MQF/EQF Level 4 carrying 16 Credits. The course will focus on principles of inclusive education, child development, learning processes, supporting different needs, behaviour management, development and implementation of MAP and IEP’s, practice placement, working in a team, the inclusive curriculum and access arrangements. This is an introductory course for persons who do not necessarily have experience in the area of inclusion and who are interested in applying for the post of Supply Learning Support Educator. Successful completion of this course paves the way for successive Inclusive Education Courses leading up to the Degree in Inclusive Education through a modular design, approach and delivery specifically targeted for mature students.
Course Structure
The duration of this programme of study is of 105 contact hours. This excludes further hours of self-study and research which form an integral part of the course. The 105 guided hours also exclude a work-placement period of 1 week, which is mandatory. Unless otherwise stated/announced, Training will be held On-Line in the evenings via an On-Line platform, details of which will be made available to all candidates in good time before the start of any programme, with sessions being delivered typically twice a week for a period of 15 weeks with each session being 3½ hours long. Successful candidates will be awarded the Award in Inclusive Education at the end of the course. A minimum of 80% attendance is mandatory.
Programme Learning Outcomes
At the end of the programme the learner will be able to:
Describe the importance of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Assess the inclusive policies and practices within the inclusive education sector.
Promote inclusive practices within the learning environment.
Explain the development of children and its implications on inclusive education.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be:
(i) proficient in the Maltese and English languages; AND
(ii) in possession of any recognised qualification at MQF level 6 (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS/ECVET credits or equivalent, with regard to programmes commencing as from October 2003);
OR
(iii) in possession of a recognised qualification at MQF level 5 (subject to a minimum of 30 ECTS/ECVET credits, or equivalent, with regard to programmes commencing as from October 2003) in Inclusive Education; AND
(a) a pass (at least at Grade 1-5, Grade C or a comparable level) in four (4) subjects at MQF level 3 which must include Maltese, English Language, Mathematics and any other subject; OR
(b) a full MQF level 3 VET Qualification, or a Secondary School Certificate and Profiling qualification at MQF level 3, in four (4) subjects which must include Maltese, English Language, and Mathematics and any other subject as separate study units within the course pursued;
OR
(iv) in possession of a full recognised Qualification at MQF level 4 in Health & Social Care, Children’s Play Learning & Development, Children’s Care Learning & Development; AND
(a) a pass (at least at Grade 1-5, Grade C or a comparable level) in four (4) subjects at MQF level 3 which must include Maltese, English Language, Mathematics and any other subject; OR
(b) a full MQF level 3 VET Qualification, or a Secondary School Certificate and Profiling qualification at MQF level 3, in four (4) subjects which must include Maltese, English Language and Mathematics and any other subject as separate study units within the course pursued;
OR
(v) in possession of any subject at Advanced Matriculation Level (minimum grade E) at MQF level 4;
AND
(a) a pass (at least at Grade 1-5, Grade C or a comparable level) in four (4) subjects at MQF level 3 which must include Maltese, English Language, Mathematics and any other subject; OR
(b) a full MQF level 3 VET Qualification, or a Secondary School Certificate and Profiling qualification at MQF level 3, in four (4) subjects which must include Maltese, English Language and Mathematics and any other subject as separate study units within the course pursued.
Qualifications at a level higher than that specified above will be accepted for eligibility purposes, provided they meet any specified subject requirements.
Moreover, candidates who have not yet formally obtained any of the above-mentioned qualifications may still be considered, provided that they submit evidence that they have been approved for the award of the qualifications in question by the time for the call for applications.
(vi) of conduct which is appropriate to the post/position applied for; those applying from outside the Service must produce a Certificate of Conduct issued by the Police or other competent authority not earlier than one (1) month from the date of application and state whether they have ever been in Government Service, giving details. Applicants who are already in the Malta Public Service must produce a Service and Leave Record Form (GP 47).
Due consideration will be given to applicants who, besides the requisites indicated have proven relevant work experience.
