Manual metal arc welding (MMA or MMAW), also known as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux shielded arc welding or stick welding, is a process where the arc is struck between an electrode flux coated metal rod and the work piece. Both the rod and the surface of the work piece melt to create a weld. MMA welding is versatile and efficient and occupies a prominent place among the many welding techniques that exist today. The candidates will follow on a se ries of practical sess ions to produce sound welded products in terms of performance and
appearance of welded joints in different positions.
Overall Learning Outcomes of Programme
1. Demonstrate safe workplace practices by identifying potential hazards in a welding workshop.
2. Fabricate and assemble a given project according to specifications and specified tolerances.
3. Select and operate trade related equipment in a safe and approved manner.
4. Perform Shielded Meta l Arc Welding (SMAW) on tee, lap, corner and butt joints in various welding positions.
5. Identify and select the appropriate size of electrode, polarity, amperage setting. And electrode manipulation for a specific application.
