Company Overview:

MCAST Gateway to Industry Ltd (MG2i) is the commercial subsidiary of MCAST, supporting industry, business and professional development through a diverse portfolio of training, consultancy, international and commercial services. MG2i is entering a period of growth and governance renewal, and the Finance Manager will play a central part in it.

We are seeking to appoint a Finance Manager to lead and oversee the financial management function of the organisation and to provide accurate, timely and strategic financial information to management and the Board.

The Role:

The Finance Manager will be responsible for the effective management and oversight of MG2i’s financial operations, ensuring sound financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance with applicable requirements and effective financial planning.

The Finance Manager reports to the General Manager and will work closely with the management team, the Board of Directors, the external auditors and other stakeholders, providing financial insight and supporting informed business and operational decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day financial operations of MG2i.
  • Prepare and oversee accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and management accounts.
  • Lead financial reporting under IFRS, including the preparation of the annual financial statements and the coordination of the statutory audit.
  • Support the preparation, monitoring and review of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide analysis of significant variances.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls, procedures and processes are maintained and continuously improved.
  • Oversee cash-flow management, banking activities, payments, receivables and payables.
  • Manage treasury and deposit placements in line with Board approved policy and bank mandates.
  • Monitor income, expenditure and financial commitments, ensuring appropriate authorisation and documentation.
  • Coordinate the preparation of year-end financial information and liaise with external auditors and other professional advisers as required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, taxation requirements, statutory obligations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Manage tax, VAT and FSS compliance, and ensure the timely submission of statutory returns and filings, including those due to the Malta Business Registry.
  • Provide financial analysis and advice to the General Manager and management team to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Prepare financial information and reports for consideration by the Board and relevant committees.
  • Oversee the verification and reconciliation of recharges and related party transactions with MCAST.
  • Support procurement and tender-related financial evaluations where required.
  • Review and strengthen financial processes, systems and internal controls.
  • Supervise, guide and support finance staff, promoting accountability, accuracy and professional development.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure effective financial planning and reporting.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
  • Undertake other finance-related duties and projects appropriate to the role.

Candidate Profile:

We are looking for a commercially aware and technically strong finance professional who can combine sound accounting expertise with effective financial management and leadership.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • A warrant to practise as an Accountant in Malta under the Accountancy Profession Act (Cap. 281), or a recognised professional accountancy qualification (such as ACCA, ACA or CPA) together with eligibility to obtain the warrant.
  • At least five (5) years’ relevant experience in a similar financial management or senior accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Experience in preparing and analysing management accounts and financial information.
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and of Maltese taxation, VAT and FSS requirements, with hands on experience of statutory audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and develop a finance team.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality and professional judgement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with accounting/ERP systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with senior management and other teams.
