Course Description
The Certificate in Farriery provides learners with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional standards required to practise safely and effectively as a qualified farrier. This hands-on course combines the scientific foundations of equine anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and husbandry with intensive workshop training in hoof care, trimming, forging, and shoeing techniques.
Learners develop a thorough understanding of equine locomotion, gait analysis, and common hoof pathologies, as well as the ability to design and fit shoes that promote soundness and performance. Emphasis is placed on animal welfare, workplace safety, and professional ethics, in line with national and EU para-veterinary standards.
Through supervised practical sessions, students gain direct experience with horses in varied contexts, from routine maintenance to corrective and remedial farriery. Graduates will be equipped to meet the growing demand for skilled and certified farriers within the Maltese equine sector, contributing to improved welfare and industry professionalism.
