Course Description:
This MBA in Retail degree focuses on the learning and practical application of concepts essential for operating and analysing, researching, operating, managing, and marketing a retail business. This program develops an understanding of the contemporary retail environment and examine topical issues relating to retail management, operations, and marketing. This program assesses analytical skills essential for operating, analysing and managing in an international retail environment. It critically examines international retail development and activity, with a view to putting this knowledge into practice
Overall Learning Outcomes of Programme:
LO1 Examine the evolution of retailing, and associated theories, the functions and economic importance of retailing and the rise of retail power.
LO2 Evaluate critically the complexity of retail channels, store, and non-store, used as alternative routes to market, and the merits of alternative strategies for different types of retail business.
LO3 Asses the nature of the competitive environment within which retailers operating developed economies and the forces driving change for sectors and types of retailers.
LO4 Reflect critically on the growth and scope of retail theory and practice to identify future trends in retailing.
LO5 Apply core business theories and concepts to retail specific business problems, to diagnose critical issues, appraise strategies and design alternative solutions.
Minimum entry requirements for Programme:
To gain admission, the applicant will normally hold a Bachelor’s degree with Honours (minimum second class) or equivalent professional qualifications (10 years of work experience). It is also desirable that the applicant has as a minimum two years of relevant work experience.
Target Group:
The MBA in Retail is designed to attract applicants that have completed the relevant Degree at MCAST. Also is highly designed to attract applicants from the sector (supermarkets management and HR team, Clothes retailers, technological equipment retails). Applicant with basic work experience in retailing will give them a lot of knowledge on the latest retail developments (AI, Industry 4.0, Business Analytics)
This programme comprises 10 modules and a Master’s Dissertation. It has three exit points relating to 30, 60 and 90 ECTS accumulated totals, entitling the student to a Post-Graduate Certificate, Post-Graduate Diploma and MBA in Retail respectively
