Course Description
Following Flat Pattern Drafting – 1, this course is designed to extend learners ability in pattern drafting.
To be able to translate pattern information for cutting and assembling procedures in garment production, it is crucial that a fashion designer in the industry knows pattern drafting and construction. This unit is intended to provide students with the technical abilities necessary for basic pattern construction. Guided sessions will provide students with the skills and knowledge required for drafting and constructing block patterns.
This course will focus on the theory and drafting techniques of trousers and jackets, emphasising correct pattern drafting vocabulary. Fluency in technical terminology is essential for pattern drafters to better communicate throughout the fashion conception and production process. Technical vocabulary such as notches, balancing marks, darts, waistband, and pleats should be understood by designers, pattern makers, and sewing and assembly departments. In this course, students will master the technical terminology used to communicate across the entire production system, from custom fashion to mass production.
Students in this course will create block patterns, modify fashion designs to produce style variations and display a portfolio of technical work.
