Description

Course Description

This course in intended for personnel already qualified as a fitter/ maintenance technicians and see the need to enhance their knowledge of various mechanical/ electrical parts of lifts and installation procedures. With this course candidates will be in a better position to assume predefined responsibility of the lift installation procedure. Lift safe working procedures are of prime importance and hence will be enforced throughout the course.

Learning Outcomes

  1.  Describe lift/ elevator terminology and type of lift classification
  2. Describe the main lift components and the lift safety components
  3. Identify standards governing the lift industry and documentation for handing over maintenance
  4. Describe the criteria to be taken into account when following rescue procedures and procedures to safeguard health and safety in lifts
  5. Describe basic electrical installation circuits, electrical symbols, voltages and the various means of isolating electrical systems

Pre Requisites

  • Candidates must be able to handle vocational tools and alert to observe site safety procedures.
  • Functional analytical and communication skills
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and mechanical/ hydraulic systems underpinning

Minimum Criteria

  • Level 3 Vocational Qualification in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Building Services Engineering and an employer recommendation.
  • Level 2 – MCAST Lift Operations Awareness and one year direct on the job experience.
  • Functional communication skills/ Analytical Skills

Maturity Clause

Candidates over the age of 21 years may be considered under the Maturity Clause should they not meet the minimum criteria required to follow this course.
