This course is suitable for students who have already attended the basic course in machine tools and would like to further their knowledge in this area.
The course is 60 hours long. Lessons are held as indicated on the prospectus and website.
This course will introduce delegates to the advanced essentials of general engineering mainly on machine
tools, in particular conventional lathes and milling machines.
Areas of study related to machine tools would include amongst others[c1] :
1. Advanced turning techniques
2. Indexing head usage with application to spur gears
3. Helical gear cutting
4. Advanced milling techniques
A basic machine tools course together with relevant experience would be considered an asset for this advanced course.
Course participants may be awarded either an MCAST Certificate of Attendance or an MCAST Certificate of Achievement.

If the student intends to obtain a Certificate of Achievement, she/he is required to sit for an assessment/s. Assessment/s may take various forms such as a home assignment, class assignment, practical test and time constrained test. However, the assessment/s is not compulsory and an applicant may choose not to sit for it.
