Award in Basic English as a Foreign Language

English is an international language and thus many foreigners seek to become proficient in this language to be independently functional and to adjust to the new environment in their host country since it is the language understood by the majority.

Therefore this kit comprises of practical lessons where foreign learners obtain the basic knowledge and skills required to be able to communicate effectively in everyday situations.

For this purpose learners would need the ability to formulate their thoughts and ideas in English and communicate them to participate in personal conversations and discussions. Also learners need to be able to recognize the tone relevant to the communication taking place to adapt and function in any situation. Learners also need the ability to communicate in writing and create texts for different purposes and audiences since today being able to communicate by email or text is a must in many situations. Learners will also become familiar with basic jargon and technicalities which are often used in everyday situations that may be misunderstood by a foreign speaker of English.

Upon completing the course, learners should be able to:

• LO1. Participate in a discussion or casual conversation using the English language effectively
• LO2. Create texts for a variety of purposes and audiences using correct tone
