Course Rationale

Project management refers to the definition and planning, and then the subsequent management, control, and conclusion of a project.  It is important to recognise that all projects need a high standard of project management.  Depending on the complexity of the project, the more there is the need for a formal and structured process.  The unit aims to help learners understand the concept and the process of project management.  It will also help learners to use basic tools and software used in project management.

  4. Explain the management process of a project-orientation organisation

Expanded Content

  1. Understand concepts of Project Management
    • Definition of project: project vs operations, links between project and company strategy, structuring for projects, project stakeholders, project manager and his team
  2. Understand the processes of Project Management
    • The key knowledge areas and processes for good Project Management: Time, Cost, Quality Management for projects;  Project Scope statement, Feasibility study, Risk management and Conflicts; Project closure and devlicery to client.  Legislations, Standard and Regulations.
  3. Use tools and methods for Project Management and Programme Management implementation
    • The use of tools such as Milestone Plan.  Work Breakdown Charts, and GANTT charts the use of software such as MS Project in Project Management.  Project Definition Report (PDR)
  4. Explain the management process of a project-orientation organisation
    • The Project Management Office (PMO); Managing Project Programs and Portfolios; Assessing the effectiveness of project based companies
