This project-based course is an ideal way to learn the process behind being a successful Fashion Designer and meet new people. It aims to provide an enjoyable interactive environment for all those who find some interests in Fashion design. People who may be interested in taking this course can be anyone from novices who want some ideas with their own fashion wardrobe, seamstresses who want to learn how to present ideas to clients, and aspiring fashion designers who want to launch a successful career in the industry.
The course involves a number of practical projects, slideshows with lectures, demonstrations, and informal class discussions. All demonstrations have visual aids, images and samples to enlighten students with clear easy to follow instructions on how to create design schemes and how to apply them effectively through drawing.
The aim is to teach the fundamental design elements/techniques and to make them easy to follow with step by step guidance. This course offers an insight into the fashion industry and their practices from concept, preparation, planning and presentation. Areas covered include, introduction to fashion sectors, fashion history and vintage styles, researching present designers, keeping ahead of trends, fashion consultancy and stylists, designing for clients, understanding colour theory and suitability to clients, body shapes and garment shapes, garments terminology, , garment design principals, line , shape and symmetry, concept development, creative approaches, stages of research, mood and theme boards, fabrics, fibers, decorative finishes, pattern and motif development, technical drawing, flats, fashion illustration, fashion templates, pattern development, creating a portfolio, presentation, layout, composition, promotion and marketing.
This is a 26 hr guided learning programme. Students need to invest further hours which will include private study and home assignments.

Course participants may be awarded either an MCAST Certificate of Attendance or an MCAST Certificate of Achievement.

If the student intends to obtain a Certificate of Achievement, she/he is required to sit for an assessment/s. Assessment/s may take various forms such as a home assignment, class assignment, practical test and time constrained test. However, the assessment/s is not compulsory and an applicant may choose not to sit for it.
