Description

Operations Management is ever increasingly featuring as a critical function in the growth and profitability of organisations – especially due to over competitive markets. The ability to deliver products and services fast and right first time while cutting costs has become fundamental to not only the competitiveness of a business, but also its survival. Given the significant resource percentage consumed by operations, effective operations management has a considerable contribution to make towards the overall success of a business.

 

At the end of this short programme, participants would have gained the knowledge to more effectively manage their operations and thus make a valuable contribution towards the success of their business.

 

The course is targeted for:

 

 

    • People from manufacturing and service industries who are faced with the challenge of improving their organisation’s profitability and competitiveness will benefit from this programme.

 

    • Managers who wish to refresh or increase their knowledge of Operations Management either to advance their careers or to improve the performance of the operations for which they are responsible.

 

 

This is a 40 hr guided learning course.  Students need to invest further hours which will include private study and home assignments.

 

Lessons are held as indicated on the prospectus and website.

 

Learning Outcome 1: Enhance own knowledge of an applied concept of operations management within dynamic contexts

    • How to integrate the Sales, Marketing, Operations and Finance functions in the business.

 

 

Learning Outcome 2: Identify various ways how different operations are managed and controlled

    • Operations planning, scheduling and control

 

    • Inventory management and control

 

    • Quality management and process reliability

 

    • Supply chain management

 

    • Fundamentals of Cost Accounting

 

 

Learning Outcome 3: Identify and apply the best practice in manufacturing operations

    • Lean Manufacturing

 

    • 6-Sigma

The following are the suggested pre-requisites and/or entry requirements needed:

 

Pre-Requisites:

 

 

    • Access to the course is open to all participants who are currently in a position wherein they are responsible in one way or the other for some aspect of operations management – especially within the manufacturing sector.

 

 

Entry Requirements:

 

 

    • Participants are expected to have a working knowledge of English, which will be considered as an asset in favour of participants.

 

 

Course participants may be awarded either an MCAST Certificate of Attendance or an MCAST Certificate of Achievement.

 

MCAST Certificate of Attendance

 

 

    • An MCAST Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those candidates who attend at least 80% of the lessons.

 

 

MCAST Certificate of Achievement

 

 

    • An MCAST Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to those candidates who satisfy the 80% attendance criteria AND ALSO choose to sit and pass the course assessment/s.

 

    • Students who opt not to sit for the assessment/s or fail (the assessment/s) will however be awarded an MCAST Certificate of Attendance provided that they fulfill the minimum attendance criteria as stated above. 

 

 

If the student intends to obtain a Certificate of Achievement, she/he is required to sit for an assessment/s.  Assessment/s may take various forms such as a home assignment, class assignment, practical test and time constrained test.  However, the assessment/s is not compulsory and an applicant may choose not to sit for it.

 

There are no additional costs or special materials/equipment to bring.
