Course Description: 

In today’s highly competitive business environment, the skills and talent of every single staff need to be optimised. Having knowledgeable and competent storekeepers and store assistants, frees the executives and managers to allocate more time on value-added activities and enhance customer satisfaction.

Unquestionably, trained staff are more productive, more efficient, thus help reduce operating costs, and contribute towards increased customer satisfaction through accuracy and speed of operation.

This programme is specifically designed to address the knowledge gaps of the storekeepers and store assistants, in order to make them more productive, efficient and motivated.

Stores is an important component of material management since it is a place that keeps the materials in a way by which the materials are well accounted for, are maintained safe, and are available at the time of requirement.

Storage is an essential and most vital part of the economic cycle and stores management is a specialised function, which can contribute significantly to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the materials function.

Stores management is concerned with ensuring that all the activities involved in storekeeping and stock control are carried out efficiently and economically by the store personnel.

Proper management of store systems provide flexibility to absorb the shock variation in demand, and enable purchasing to plan ahead.

Learning Outcomes / Objectives

  • LO 1. Describe the role of an effective Storekeeper/Assistant including aspects of Health and Safety
  • LO 2. Apply practical store planning to achieve management performance expectation.
  • LO 3. Increase productivity and Store Action Planning.
  • LO4. Discuss practical material / stock receiving strategy – person in charge, stock receiving procedures and problem solving.
  • LO 5. Achieve Material Storage Objectives – Ready Access, Efficient Space Utilisation, Material Handling, Reduce Deterioration, etc.
  • LO 6. Record store documentation effectively and administer efficient working techniques.
  • LO 7. Implement practical strategies to increase store hand productivity and performance.

Pre-Requisites to Follow this Course

  • Over 21 years of Age
  • Basic English – Verbal as well as Written.
  • Basic Mathematical Skills.
  • Prior industrial experience in a stores environment will greatly assist the participant.
